Welcome Visitors

Welcome to my personal blog. I have another blog, Herbert's Place, but that one limits me to what I sometimes want to publish, because it is mainly used to promote my books. As it says in the header, I want to use this blog to write about things that have nothing to do with my books. There is no real theme here. I'll be writing about anything that causes me to either be happy or somethings that concerns me. It could be political, travel, a hobby, or anything else. So come and visit me sometimes.

#Winter in Manitoba

The first thing I hear every day when the radio comes on in the morning is the news. And it is usually bad news. These past few days a 17 year old boy was murdered by a 22-year-old, who had already a history with the law. A woman got murdered in her house. A 14 year old girl brought a couple of long kitchen knives to school and stabbed a bunch of students. And that is only local news.

On the international stage we had some religious idiot in Syria blowing himself up and murdering over 100 people and destroying buildings. The list goes on. Sometimes I don’t even want to listen to the news anymore, but I need to be informed.

The oil cartels, mainly the Saudis, are trying to ruin the economy of the western world by pumping more oil than ever, flooding the market and bringing oil prices down to a level that is unsustainable for a long time. Perhaps it will be a good thing if Donald Trump becomes President of the USA. He will probably stop catering to the Saudis the way the old Bush Administration did. The US invaded and bombed the hell out of Iraq in the 90s to help protect the precious oil wells of the Saudis and that's how they pay back that effort and the sacrifices that were made. The don't give a crap about all the American soldiers who lost their lives for really nothing. Getting rid of Saddam Hussain was the worst thing, because he was in control and ruled with a strong hand. ISIS may have never come into existence. The exodus from Syria may never have happened.

The Americans should buy our oil. We have plenty of it and we will be grateful. It will bring up our economy and will also help the USA. If our dollar gains in value we will be able to buy from them. Canadian cross-border shoppers will buy from the stores in Fargo, Grandforks and all those other places.

Our new Liberal Government is spending money like crazy, giving millions to every country that comes begging. Giving away money when the country goes bankrupt is the most idiotic thing I ever heard of. Or perhaps I should say one of the many idiotic things I’ve heard of lately. He’s wasting money on useless inquiries that will only confirm what everyone already knows, instead of giving the money to the people who really need it in our own country. He’s bringing refugees to Canada at an incredible cost and there aren’t any houses available for families with many children. He’d rather evict Canadians out of their apartments to give the apartments to the refugees. Canadian soldiers have to move out of their barracks and move into cramped quarters to make room for foreigners. Crazy. The forecast deficit is going to be 18 Billion dollars. We owe so much money that our grandchildren will have trouble paying off the huge dept. And this is just the beginning of the four years the Liberals will be in power. I bet, many people who voted for them are sorry already. Smiling into the cameras, taking selfies with everybody he meets and shaking hands with everyone does not fix the country or create jobs that are so desperately needed. Our Prime Minister in his incredible wisdom stocked the Parliament with representatives of minorities who will decide the fate of the majority ethnic groups. Not good news.

Our NDP Provincial Government isn’t acting any better. Just look at the people behind the Premier when we see him on TV and you know who he is catering to. And it isn’t because he cares so much about them. No, my friends; it is all about votes. Fuck the hardworking taxpayers of Canada.

The climate in the hunting and fishing community is not healthy. People are angry. Our lakes are in trouble; fish stocks are dwindling because of over-fishing. Not over-fishing by anglers who bring in millions of dollars into the country, no, the problems are the commercial fishermen who clean out the lakes with their huge nets. They seem totally oblivious to the fact that they are killing their own livelihood by over-fishing the lakes. Unless they just don’t care, knowing that the government will look after them when the fish are gone.

The same thing is happening with our game animals. The #Elk and #Moose are disappearing because of uncontrolled hunting. The indigenous people are allowed to hunt during the night with lights, giving the animals no chance at all. On top of it that practice is dangerous. One guy got killed a few years ago during one of those hunts and many farmers are reporting that shots have been fired at their homes and farm equipment, causing costly damage and life threatening situations. I’m not making this up. It has been in the news a few days ago.

I won’t say anymore, because if one points out the truth and the underlying cause of the problems in this country there is the danger of being accused of being a racist or a hatemonger

Nothing could be further from the truth. Not everything that is being criticized has to do with racism. And it seems everything is always turned into racism. People who feel threatened will always show their teeth and go for the criticizer’s throat. The truth is that problems don’t get resolved that way. Only by sitting down and discussing problems with a clear head and open mind will anything ever get fixed. And things need fixing. Unfortunately, our politicians have no backbone. They are all afraid of being labelled a racist or bigot and of losing their precious seats in the government.

This is the 21 century. Things have changed. They are not the same as when the constitution of this country was written. Populations have increased dramatically. Cities are getting larger. Roads have been built in areas that were never accessible a hundred years ago. We have off-road vehicles. Hunters use modern, semi-automatic weapons with scopes, not bows and arrows or inaccurate muzzle loaders. The environment has changed; the animals are disappearing because of loss of their habitat and over-harvesting. They have no chance at all to survive unless something is done; by that I mean controlled hunting by everyone. No more privileges. Doing away with this dangerous and unfair practice of hunting by night with million-candlepower flashlights. They didn’t exist 200 years ago. This has nothing to do with racism. It is just common sense. If we do nothing nobody will be hunting in the not so far distant future, because their won’t be anything to hunt.

I apologize. Again, as usual, I got carried away.

Not everything is ugly in this world. If we take the time, open our eyes, we will see the beauty that exists in nature.

Here is an example of those beautiful things. This can only happen on a beautiful, sunny morning.
